ODIN - WODEN ENTHRONED

$32.00

Odin / Woden, the Northern God of Magick and War is a modern symbol of victory and the strength of Will. Woden / Odin was the God of Vikings and Migratian period of Germanic tribes in the 6 and 7th century before Christianity took control. " Lombards in 579 during their blockade of Rome, according to the Dialogues (ch. 28) of Pope Gregory I, sacrificed a goat's head to their god of war, dancing around it and singing "nefarious songs" (per circuitum currentes et carmine nefando dedicantes, c.f. ansulaikom). Gregory claims that the Lombards demanded of 400 of their Christian prisoners to bow before the goat's head in adoration, and as they refused slew them all." - Woden was often viewed as a symbol of war and strength, the very symbol of earthly victory. Here Woden / Odin is seen upon his Northern throne with spear and two wolves at his knee, ravens encircling him. 7" x 6 1/4" ResinPlus Plaque, blue wash finish. Woden was like Zeus and other Gods outside of Christian ideals, called Devils and considered evil. A particular baptismal rite translates "I renounce all the words and works of the devil, Thunear, Woden and Saxnot, and all those fiends that are their associates".
