In Babylonian culture, Ishtar was known as "she who endowed the king
with prestige." Ishtar's priestesses were credited with bringing forth a
bountiful crops and prosperity.
This Ishtar-water goddess was no doubt worshipped alongside Dagan who had a strong cult presence in Mari in Northern Mesopotamia.
